Intravenous Dental Sedation
If you are nervous about having dental treatment or you are having a procedure that may cause discomfort your dentist might suggest carrying out your treatment under intravenous sedation.
Intravenous sedation is a safe and effective adjunct to treatment used to help you relax during dental procedures.
- The sedative agent is given by injection into a vein in your arm or the back of the hand
- You will remain conscious at all times and you will be able to talk and respond to verbal instructions
- Once sedated you will also receive local anaesthetic so that the treatment can be carried out
- Afterwards you will probably have a little or no memory of the procedure
Please note, this is not a general anaesthetic and you will be awake, but very relaxed, throughout the procedure.
Smilescene Hamilton are an accredited NHS Dental Sedation clinic offering its services to customers in Hamilton and other nearby towns in South Lanarkshire including Motherwell, East Kilbride, Carluke, Lanark, Strathaven, Rutherglen and Larkhall.

I feel at ease and the staff at Smilescene in Stonehouse are great, they are very friendly and that makes a relaxing atmosphere when I am getting my treatment.
